Hi . . . my name is Haley.
The loving people at TALGV are going out of their way to let me know that everything will be all right, but I’m not quite convinced yet. You see, I did everything right, and I still lost what was to have been my forever home. They say that this is harder on my breed than some because German shepherds are known for their loyalty and devotion. It was also hard on my family but sometimes circumstances change and there aren’t many happy choices left. One thing for which I am very grateful is that TALGV expects its adopters to return their pet to the shelter if they cannot keep it for its lifetime, so I am back among friends who cared for me and my sisters, Fancy and Freda (my name was Frannie), when we were just pups in early 2009. I have grown into a gorgeous gal who at 1½ years old weighs in at 56 pounds. My family taught me many useful commands (sit, stay, heel, down for lay down) as well as the ever-popular “high five.” I walk well on a leash and even sit when you stop. I am very loving and great with children and other dogs. As I tell you these things about me, I’m feeling more optimistic and ready to give my loyalty and trust to a family that can promise to love and keep me forever. . .and the sooner that happens, the happier everyone is going to be.
1½-year-old, long-haired, tan with black, female, German shepherd

Hi…my name is Onyx.
The lady who found me (in Rancho Sahuarita’s North Park) only had me for a day, but she said that during that time I LOVED her kids (ages 4, 6, 7, and 13), got along famously with her dog, and ignored her cat (although it wasn’t in the same room, so she wasn’t too sure about that!). She said that I still have a lot of “puppy” in me and that I love to play (a bit “rambunctious” is the word she used!), but that I was generally very gentle and tolerant. I’m a black Lab/heeler mix boy with a bit of speckled white on my chest and feet and a natty white strip down my nose. I weigh 51 pounds now, and that’s probably pretty much where I’ll stay except for filling out my lanky body a bit. Although I know “sit” pretty well, I’m going to need someone who will provide consistent training in all the other “good dog” areas, so I’m hoping that a person who has had experience in that department is just around the corner looking for another canine to add to his or her list of successes!

Hi…my name is Lola.
OK – there’s no rule saying that you can’t toot your own horn, and since I’m so proud of all the good things I hear about myself, I’m going to share them with you! Everyone says that I am a beautiful, blue merle, Australian heeler girl who is excellent with people: friendly, loyal, loving, obedient, fun, responsive, smart, well-trained…you name it! My only “flaw” is that I really don’t get along well at all with other dogs and want to be the “one and only” in your life. I’ve been around children and loved playing with them (I was very gentle and tolerant) and I’ve never met a cat, so I’m not sure about them. I think that it would be the most wonderful thing in the world if I could find a home where I am able to spend lots of one-on-one time with my people so that my energy has a few more outlets. If you have a life full of activities (outdoor and indoor) that I can participate in, then I think we’ll find that we were made for each other

Hi…my name is Casper.
If you remember the yellow Lab, Marley, of the book "Marley and Me" fame, that will give you an idea of me – except that I’m LOTS better behaved! I am a happy, fun and very smart, 3-year-old, cream-colored, Lab/terrier mix guy who lived with my people (a couple and their two young kids) for two years until they parted ways a while ago. I’m a very affectionate soul, especially with kids (I’m not fond of other dogs though and I REALLY don't like cats). I know I’ll make a wonderful "only child" addition to your family. I am perfectly housebroken and I’ve learned lots of commands – like “heel, sit, watch, down, stay, and come.” I love to play with knotted socks and tennis balls (well, I like to play with just about anything actually!), and am generally an all-around “good old boy” who loves to spend lots of time with his people. Why don’t you hurry on in to meet me – any day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. I’ll be waiting for you!

Hi…my name is Harriett.
No matter how good you are, sometimes life gives you lemons. My friends, Hillary, Hannah, and I lived with our family our whole lives, and although we were pretty much outdoor dogs, we still felt like we were part of a family. Well, our people fell on hard times recently and when they were evicted they left us behind in the yard to fend for ourselves. Fortunately, a kind county constable came by, saw our plight, and called TALGV. Despite not having had a whole lot of one-on-one, “in-house” time, I am a very sociable girl who does love people and am eager to learn all the things that will make me central to my new human’s life. I am a lovely, 4-5-year-old, brown, black and white Heeler mix (I have those characteristic Heeler speckled splotches here and there), and the most astonishing ice blue eyes you’ve ever seen. I want so badly to love and be loved in return, so I hope you can find it in your heart to help me forget my past and turn my sour lemons into sweet lemonade!

Hi…my name is Gata.
There are sad stories and the there are break-your-heart stories! My owner was murdered in January and my friend, Ambrose, and I lived with some other people in our house for a while, but then they were evicted, moved, and left both of us in the yard with no food or water. Fortunately, the neighbors took pity on us and were tossing food over the fence, and that kept us going for a while. The neighbors finally called TALGV and told them of our plight and as soon as there was space for us, we got to come here. Well, I’m happy to report that now that I’m getting four square meals a day and tons of attention, things are starting to look up. I am a very sweet, solid black, heeler mix girl, who is about a year old. Despite all the hardship I’ve been through, I’m still an outgoing, loving girl and I want nothing more in life than a peaceful, stable home where I can show my people how happy I am to have survived my ordeal by making them the centerpiece of my life! ]

Hi…my name is Dutch.
But they call me Mr. Personality! And one look at my eager and smiling face and you’ll know why! I am one handsome, brindle and white specimen of a Boxer/terrier mix guy who was found along the side of the road near Anamax Park in Sahuarita. You can tell by my beautiful “pearly whites” that I’m still a pretty young guy – probably around a year old – so I’ve still got the “rambunctiousness” that’s typical of fellows my age. The wonderful volunteers here are already helping me learn lots of things that will mold me into the well-behaved, loving companion I’m meant to be, so in no time at all I’ll be ready to go home with a family that wants me to be a big part of their life. I know that’s what I want more than anything, so I’m hoping that you’re out there now thinking the same thing! ]

Hi… my name is Jolene.
I overheard some of the volunteers talking about what a good example I am of making a difference in a dog’s life. I am a 4-year-old Geerman short-haired pointer mix girl who was found by a Good Samaritan along I-19 several minutes north of the Duval Mine Road exit. She brought me, terrified and rundown, to TALGV where the Pet Pals immediately took me under their wing. To some I might be “just” another brown dog, but all you need to do is look into my eyes (or those of any abandoned dog) to see how unique and grateful I am. From abandonment and hopelessness, I now have ahead of me what a dog’s life should be. The good people at TALGV recognized my poor condition, so I was placed in a foster home for some extra TLC. I was then diagnosed with a life threatening disease that would have killed me had it had not been treated, but with treatment, which will be finished by June 1, I will be completely cured. My coat is now shiny and my tail is wagging. The only piece remaining before moving on to the next chapter of my life is finding you. . .my forever family.

Hi…my name is Button.
They say the third time’s a charm and I’m sure hoping that will be the case with me! I have been found roaming the streets in Green Valley at least three times since last October – the most recently on February 1st – so I’m here to stay this time until I find a home that will love me enough to make sure that I won’t ever want to “go walkabout” again. It’s really lucky that it happened this way, though, because when the veterinarians checked me over, they found that I had a lot of mineral stones in my bladder that were causing life-threatening problems, not to mention the terrible pain. Well, after some major surgery, they’re all gone now and I’m going to be just fine in no time. I am an exceedingly sweet, black and white Staffordshire terrier mix girl who wants nothing more in life than to be with a family who includes me in their daily lives. I love lots of exercise (long walks are good for everyone you know!), and just generally being around people. I know that I’ll make a wonderful friend my next (and last!) time around.
- Spoiler:
Hi…my name is Layla.
I am a terrier, yellow Lab mix girl who was found dragging a choke chain and leash near Sahuarita Road and Alvernon Way on Halloween. My rescuers put up flyers around the neighborhood, hoping that my owners would be frantically looking for me, but after two weeks they gave up hope. Since they already had two dogs and a cat they couldn’t keep me, but they knew I would make someone a devoted friend some day, so they prevailed upon TALGV to take me in. I have a white coat and intriguing, tan speckles artfully strewn around my face and ears. I am still very much a puppy at about 9 months, and it’s pretty obvious that I haven’t had the training that I should have at my age, but I’m very lovable and want attention, so I know that if you channel that energy into learning the stuff that’s so important for good manners, I’ll be an ideal companion in no time. Won’t you give me a chance to prove what a great girlfriend can be?
- Spoiler:
Hi…my name is Maggie.
I lived with my human mom and my “sister,” a Chesapeake Bay retriever, for the past 4½ years (it was neat as I got to learn all the doggie things in life from her). My mom couldn’t keep me any longer, so I’m going to need a special home, as I was born deaf (that happens a lot when blue-eyed, heeler or Aussie merles are bred together). Since I’ve been living with that “handicap” all my life though, I know hand signals very well and also have a special “Dogtra” collar that gets my attention if I’m not looking your way. There’s lots more about me in the bio my mom wrote for my new owners, but here are some of the highlights: “Maggie loves playing ball (she could do it FOREVER!), chewing on rope toys, chewing (or sometimes burying!) rawhide bones, long walks in the neighborhood, sitting on the couch with you when you’re reading or watching TV, sleeping at the foot of the bed (if she can get away with it!), being petted, and having her head scratched.” If you’ve had experience with special needs girls like me, you will be getting one amazing companion when you make me yours.
